Details are the Design!

October 11, 2017

The details are not the details. They make the design.” said Charles Eames.

DSC_8718The best working relationships start with an emotional connection. First and for most our clients need to know that we completely hear them, that they can trust us, and we are committed to delivering the best Interior Decorating and Design outcome that will surpass their expectations.

One of the ways Kathleen Steele Design achieves this is through exploring all the design details that are available throughout the day, week, and year. We are always taking photos that simple inspire creativity. (Check out our Instagram.) Whether attending a new supplier event, an art exhibit, or large trade shows, these design details are constantly being cataloged, just waiting for the right time and right client.

The important part of choosing upholstery yes of course is the style and fabric, but their are other opportunities to create pieces that can add that next layer of detail to the design. These details will tell the client’s story of having a timeless causal or maybe sophisticated formal room.  Our eye catches the details like styled legs, chunky, tapered, metal or wood. Nail heads can embellish the pieces, in all metal finishes. Piping and and hand tufted button detail give the piece greater custom detail, telling more about the style and project.  Upholstery pieces Norwalk Furniture.

Start with a Custom Quality RugDSC_8752

Visiting my area rug supplier is truly one of my favorite things to do to be inspired. There is always an extensive selection of both hand knotted and machined area rugs that I discover to start the next project. It is great to visually experience designs that are contemporary, traditional, and everything in between.  The colour chose, fiber content, and different weaves, can be translated to the final outcome and tell our client’s story. Dinning room, living room, and great room will be transformed into a  spectacular design with this major design detail of adding an area rug. Area carpet right Imperial Carpet Gallery

Touch & Texture

August 21, 2017

textureModern design  is calling us to find style and comfort in an ever changing and busy world.

2017 will see design details such as top stitching, pleats, and tufted buttons, that will have us loving the new textural experience. Fabrics with raised plushes, velvets, and  jacquards will sooth our senses. Our style can be expressed with windows draped in rich luxurious panels. Upholstery pieces will consider other details like nailheads and metal legs.   Designer tip – to achieve a timeless design ensure each piece/element  has the same degree of embellishment. Keep finishes to a minimum, making one piece/element the focal point, like the head board with large nailheads for the bedroom.   Pictures from the web.

Colour – Richer Darker Shades

New Image

Welcome the newest shades of bordeaux, raspberry, and cherry red that will add a rich feminine touch to any room. I am personally in love with the fresh bordeaux  shade. For our timeless design, pair with neutrals like a favourite grey and allow your carefully placed bordeaux pieces to become the focal point. Designer tip – select only one of the new shades. Consider choosing these shades for some upholstery, a band on the drapery, or accessories.  To complete a luxurious space add rich burnished gold or bronze in lamps, and other metal details.  Again, in all timeless designs less is more.
